THE LINE-UP

What’s on the lineup card (agenda)?

In today’s newsletter, we hit the gas and tackle the challenge of building and developing resilience. Our influence and driver today is the iconic Ricky Bobby.

☕️ THE WARM-UP

Resilience. The buzz word of the last decade - with good reason.

Why is it important to talk about resiliency?

We've been through a lot. You’ve been through a lot. As companies. As cities. As humans. The more we understand how to define it, the better we can develop the skill. Yes, I said skill.

My Take: Resilience is Misunderstood: It's not just about bouncing back fast without hiccups or being born with it - it's influenced by our surroundings and how we deal with life's curveballs

On to Talladega.

Despite seeming invincible, Ricky Bobby’s journey in "Talladega Nights" is a testament to resilience. From his father leaving at a young age to suffering a career-threatening accident on the racetrack, he faced setbacks that would make most racers spin out.

However, Ricky's grit and determination kept him in the driver seat.

But how?

By nailing Angela Duckworth’s framework for resilience. My full run down is HERE.

⏱ GAMETIME

Your turn. Take a pit-stop and try my 4 step framework to build resilience

STEP 1 [Facts] What are the hard facts of the current situation?

  • Write down the reality of the situation. This may feel harsh, but naming the current state helps us become aware of what we can control.

STEP 2 [Feet] Acknowledge your presence of both mind and body.

  • Identify where your feet are. The feeling. Can you name the emotion? Is it familiar? Have you been here before?

STEP 3 [Select] Choose how you think about the situation.

  • Also known as neuroplasticity or rewiring the brain. Can you identify the thought pattern and create new behaviors in the moment? What are they?

STEP 4 [Serve] Service leads to connection. Connection builds community. Find yours.

  • When people (or cities) face adversity together, they heal and learn through the shared experience together. It also makes the comeback stronger.
