THE LINE-UP

What’s on the lineup card (agenda)?

This week, we slow ⬇️to speed ⬆️ w/ a recap of 3 months of Touching Base with YOU.

New here? Catch up on previous newsletters (games) HERE.

☝🏼One more thing before we get going .I need some help as I prepare a group coaching cohort I'm launching in June. I want YOUR opinion. You can find it in THE CLOSE at the end of the newsletter. all about longevity and tradition. As inspiration we’ll pull on examples and connect the dots of The Kentucky Derby, Netflix and a few athletes that challenged father of time.

🎥 THE REPLAY

Let’s look at a few first quarter numbers that we actually care about.

  • 12 - number of weeks sharing lessons on mindset, communication & identity.

  • 4 - weeks that I felt “good” about hitting publish. 30%. 3/10. Hitting .300. #HOF

  • 1 - new addition to the household making me a certified #girldad

And a reminder that sometimes slowing down to speed up is the hardest lesson in entrepreneurship or some may say, life.

Shall we Touch Base with some Q&A and 3 lessons learned?

Q: Why start a newsletter when you don’t like writing?

A: It felt like the right move in the name of the long game.

I’m a sucker for intuition and well, most of the time I don’t regret the choices I make when it comes to taking swings at stuff that makes me uncomfortable.

Thinking back at the past couple of years learning how to share my story, I felt that writing a monthly newsletter was a fun way to do it - and the most challenging. Short story: it is.

People like movies. They like sports. They like leadership. They like mental performance. They like shit that isn't Chat GPT’d. They like typos. They don’t need perfect grammar. They want something different.

This is my brain justifying doing the one thing that’s never been a strength. The opposite end of the comfort zone. Yet here we are, 3 months in with a few lessons learned. Check them out below.

⌚️ GAMETIME

Embrace the Creative Process Da Vinci.

Give it the space. Start. Stop. Open the doc. Close it. Erase it. Rewrite it. Here’s a quote from a friend, artist and creative that keeps coming up.  “Art is never finished, only abandoned,” attributed to Leonardo Da Vinci

You might be thinking…did this guy just compare this 3-month newsletter to Da Vinci? Haha. Hell no. Remember, we talk practical lessons and aim to give you something to go do. So…

For 🫵- Go DO. There will always be something else to make “it” better. Different word choice. Structure. Design. New giphy. Whatever “it” is that you are creating, get uncomfortable hitting PUBLISH.

  1. Silence Doesn't Mean Failure. Seriously.

You ever find yourself delivering a presentation, keynote or a simple update and look around the room to see blank stares. No expressions, Silence? 😬

Not quite BIlly.

🔃 Real-time example from a keynote I delivered last week in Chicago.

I was tasked with delivering a 30 minute keynote on Performance Through Presence. A few audience members looked angry, bored or simply confused. Clearly I thought I “blew it.

…until they sought after me to tell me they wished they would have heard my message 15 years AND that if they did, they may have been a better parent.🤯

Yeah. I was wrong. They were clearly thinking, just not what I was thinking they were thinking.

For 🫵- whether it's a newsletter, presentation or post on [insert whatever platform fits your style], deliver the message the way you intended and stop creating a false narrative of what you THINK people are THINKING. Talk your talk. Hit PUBLISH

  1. Break the Rules. They aren't fun anyways.

This is not a reflection of the teams that have been supporting me on the short form or graphic design side of the newsletter. They have been great. But man, the structure has really thrown me off.

Odd, yes. Considering structure, routine and hitting targets is something I harp on with my teams and leaders - but when it comes to this newsletter and may creative flow; the most fun has come off the cuff.

Even better, the newsletter with the best responses were written after a challenging run or coming off 3 hours on a red-eye to Nashville.

Is this fair to my team supporting me? No. But is it something worth acknowledging through this process? Yes. Again, I learn, I share, You learn. You share. Right? Because you forward this to people right?😉

For - Sometimes rules are meant to be broken. Especially when it comes to finding your voice and playing in a game of getting comfortable being uncomfortable. So, you guessed it, DO it anyways and PUBLISH.

🏁 THE CLOSE

Usually this is where I’ll plug an article, podcast or some sort of resource for you to take and apply. Lucky number 13 of Touching Base has an ask of you.

Today, I’m requesting your thoughts and opinions in preparation for a couple of group cohorts I’ll be launching in June.

Can you fill out this questionnaire? I’ve got questions. It won’t take long.

Let me know if you want to talk live about the cohorts HERE.

🏮Spoiler alert - there will be both a large group and several  intimate (niched) groups. Both will offer Legacy memberships with additional/unique  benefits.

Ready to build the community with me? REPLY with a simple 👍 and I’ll find time with you.  I’ll be looking for referrals, coaches and speakers for a few events I have coming for the back half of the year.
