☕️ THE WARM UP

Touching Base with brevity today with a preview, perspective and prompt for you to take with you into the Summer months.

Full transparency, I was debating on skipping this week knowing most are playing catch-up after the long weekend. Seeing as this is the 15th game of Touching Base, I couldn’t let this one slip.

While we are here, let us remember why this long weekend exists.

🚦 PREGAME

Remember when I told you we were taking a week off from the written format of Touching Base?

Forgive me

I spent the last few days in one of my favorite places on earth, Mt. Shasta. My time in Shasta usually sends me into new chapters, confirmation or a simple reset.

In this case, it made me write. So please, take these 15 RANDOM thoughts from the weekend with the caveat that they don’t tell a story.

They are in no specific order.

Consider them pure reflection after a weekend in a place that centers, grounds and propels me in hopes that some of my musings may also help you find your own path.

⌚️ GAMETIME

Small details are the details that matter - just like small wins are the big wins.

  1. Less talking, more listening - and that goes for listening to yourself. Intuition speaks.

  2. This CLR Country playlist ain’t bad.

  3. I still can’t believe I climbed to the top of that damn mountain (looking up at Mt. Shasta)

5. Leading from the back works until it’s time for you to step into the light. Be ready. Stay ready.

6. Discipline wins. Patience and persistence sustain the wins.

7. Seeing my daughter cry watching the ending of Finding Dory is a top 3 dad moment for me.

8. If we have a choice to speak positivity to the world, why is there so much negativity?

9. I can't believe how much growth I (we’ve) had over the last 2 years.

10. I’ll be paying for all these Murph pull-up variations for the next few days.

11. The more I talk about those no longer here, the more connected I feel to them.

12. When you drink beer, make sure it’s the best kind - Pliny for President.

13. 9pm conversations with your partner after bedtime is the most important time together.

14. Running in elevation sucks.

15. Finding a place that is home, that is not your home is a blessing.

If you’ve been following this 3 month journey of Touching Base (thank you btw), you can expect something to ponder, apply or do along your own journey in leadership.

This week, I tried to keep it as simple as possible. No books. No podcasts. Just suggestions.

🏁 THE CLOSE

Create season (Summer) schedules that include a sense of play - yes, without the kids. LEGOLAND exists for parents too. It’s called BottleRock in Napa - kidding. But, also not.

Let go of this idea that your next move (job, house, relationship) is going to be the ideal change. The perfect fit. Exactly what you’ve been looking for. Adaptability is underrated. Be okay with adjusting real-time, over time.

Reflect on your place of predilection. Right now. Where is the place that you visit and leave grounded, confirmed and energized. Now look at your calendar and book it.

Bonus tip invite people that add to that energy.
